A tribute to my sweet grandma who loved Disneyland

On Jan. 22, 2017 my sweet grandma passed away. Being so far away in Washington D.C., the news of her death still has not fully sunk in. My grandma was heavily involved in mine and my sibling’s lives and my life lost a lot of happiness that day. Yesterday, her obituary was published in our local newspaper back home, reminding me once more of reality.

However, one of the best memories I have with my Mema, as we called her, is when we took her to Disneyland. She had been only once before a long time ago, so it was basically her and my grandpa’s first time coming to the happiest place on earth.

As I looked back through the pictures, I noticed my Mema was holding my hand in almost every single one, reminding me once more of her love for her family. Disneyland is always made more special when you go with the people you love.

Here are some of my favorite memories of her in Disneyland, and I just know you will be able to see the joy radiating off of her sweet face.

She loved Winnie the Pooh, Eeyore and all of their friends. I think she was more excited to see them than some of the kids.

She had a funny habit of looking away from the camera.

Mickey ears everyone! Except for you Grandpa (but I like the smile)!

If this picture isn’t the most adorable picture you’ve seen, I don’t know what it is. No young couple Disneyland picture could top this.

Her family was her entire world. Her pride and joy.

She loved Eeyore almost as much as Winnie the Pooh. She even bought an Eeyore stuffed animal while we were there.

We were her favorite girls.

I snuck into their cute grandparents’ couple picture.

But this is perhaps my favorite memory with my Mema at Disneyland. After a long, exhausting but exciting day, I fell asleep on her shoulder on the shuttle on the way back to the hotel. I know it was one of her favorite memories too.

You will forever be loved Mema. In our hearts always.
