Many people will tell you the best times to go to Disneyland are during the times where most people are in school or work. This means one should avoid going to the park during any holiday, weekend or break.
However, there is a reason the parks are so busy during these times: these are the times families are actually able to go. If it’s not realistic for you and your family to take off a week of sports, school, work, etc. to go to the park during a non-peak time, do not despair! There are times you can go to Disneyland where the park will not be horribly crowded.
1. Thanksgiving break
I know it might sound crazy but if you want to see the Christmas decorations think about going over Thanksgiving. The park will be full, but it will not be nearly as bad as over Christmas break. We have gone over Thanksgiving multiple times, and it has never been too bad, especially during the beginning of the week.
2. Before the 4th of July
Once July hits there is little chance of seeing a day where there is not wall to wall people. While June still is a busy month, it is much more manageable than July or August.
3. Over Father’s Day weekend
Most dads, for some inexplicable reason, do not want to go to Disneyland on their special day. It’s usually reserved for camping, fishing, or football. But if you are lucky enough to have a dad as cool as mine, this may be the perfect opportunity to go to the park. The last time we were in the park on Father’s Day we rode almost every ride at Disneyland and some more than once.
4. Spring break*
I say this with a caveat because if you have the same spring break as Southern California or Arizona you are likely to see a busy park during this week. However, if your spring break does not coincide with Southern California’s, then going over spring break might be a great option!
5. When it’s raining
I know you cannot really plan to go when it rains, but if it does happen to rain while you are on your trip I would still recommend going to the park! At the smallest drop of water, the parks clear out. While some rides might be temporarily closed, the lines will be exponentially shorter.
I hope these five ideas of when to go to Disneyland help you escape some of the busiest times of the year to be in the parks while still allowing you to go at a somewhat convenient time for you and your family!
